How Astrocartography Can Help You Settle Anywhere in the World
If you’ve ever felt ‘off’ in one place and magnetic in another, this is why.
If you’ve travelled a lot, you know the feeling. Some places just click. The moment you arrive, you feel at home. Other places? They drain you, feel off, or simply don’t resonate - and you can’t explain why.
Of course, there are many possible explanations. Some say it’s connected to past lives. Others point to energy, timing, or something more spiritual. But there’s one tool most people don’t even know exists and it can offer shockingly accurate insights: Astrocartography.
In this article, I’ll walk you through the key elements of astrocartography: what it is, how it works, and how you can use it to your advantage in both life and business.
Whether you’re a traveller, a digital nomad, someone who dreams of moving abroad, or someone who’s already been living abroad for years (like me 🙋♀️) this is for you.
1. What Astrocartography actually is and why it matters
Before we dive into astrocartography, it’s important to understand the basics of astrology; especially your birth chart.
On the day you were born, the planets were positioned in a unique way. That exact configuration is what we call your birth chart.
Birth Chart of Steve Jobs
It’s a snapshot of the sky at your time and place of birth, and it holds an incredible amount of information about your energy, purpose, challenges, and gifts. Now, what happens when you project that same birth chart onto a world map?
That’s where astrocartography comes in.
Astrocartography shows your personal planetary lines stretched across the globe; revealing how different places activate different parts of your chart (and therefore, different parts of you). These lines are completely unique to you. They can explain why you feel expansive in one country, emotionally triggered in another, or deeply inspired in a place you've never been able to explain.
Astrocartography map of Steve Jobs
When you look at your Astrocartography map, you’ll notice many lines crossing the world. Each of those lines represents a different planetary influence and each one tells a different story.
This is the energy the AC/DC/MC/IC lines represent:
AC (Ascendant): How you show up, how others see you, your outward identity
DC (Descendant): Relationships, the people you attract, partnerships
MC (Midheaven): Your career, visibility, reputation, public life
IC (Imum Coeli): Home, roots, inner world, family and emotional foundation
General meaning planets and astrological points:
Sun: Identity, vitality, confidence
Moon: Emotions, intuition, safety
Mercury: Communication, mindset, learning
Venus: Love, pleasure, creativity, attraction
Mars: Drive, action, ambition, conflict
Jupiter: Growth, luck, expansion, opportunity
Saturn: Structure, responsibility, discipline, lessons
Uranus: Innovation, disruption, sudden change
Neptune: Dreams, illusions, intuition, mysticism
Pluto: Transformation, power, depth
North Node: Soul growth, destiny, karmic direction
Chiron: Healing, pain, your deepest wound and gift
Each combination of a planet and an angle creates a specific line and each line has a different energetic influence.
For example:
Venus DC might bring love, harmony, and beautiful connections.
Jupiter MC could expand your career and bring opportunities for visibility.
Saturn IC might feel heavy or grounding, with lessons around home or family.
Neptune AC could make you more intuitive, but also more foggy or ungrounded.
In short: your map is an energetic blueprint. It can help you understand why you thrive in one place and struggle in another, and more importantly, how to choose locations that support your highest potential.
Example: the Astrocartography of Steve Jobs
Let’s do a quick breakdown of Steve Jobs’ Astrocartography map. Silicon Valley – the place where he was born and where Apple came to life – sits at the crossroads of several of his most important lines: the black line of the North Node IC, the yellow line of the Sun DC, the brown line of Saturn IC, and the dark blue line of the Moon DC. This clustering of energies made Silicon Valley not just a birthplace, but the stage for his destiny, his challenges, and his deepest personal growth.
Black line – North Node IC (Capricorn, 4th house): his karmic mission to build a solid foundation and legacy rooted in structure, discipline, and long-term impact.
Yellow line – Sun DC (Pisces, 6th house): his creative vision and service expressed through others, with partnerships and collaborations being central to manifesting his ideas.
Brown line – Saturn IC (Cancer, 10th house): the weight of responsibility and hard lessons at home base, forcing him to balance personal vulnerability with the demands of public success.
Dark blue line – Moon DC (Aries, 7th house): the emotional intensity of his relationships, driving both inspiration and conflict, and teaching him how to connect with others while asserting his own pioneering spirit.
In conclusion: Silicon Valley was far more than a location on the map for Steve Jobs. It was the energetic ground where his soul’s mission, creative vision, emotional lessons, and karmic responsibilities all converged. This alignment explains why his life and legacy were so profoundly tied to this place: it was where his destiny unfolded, his challenges tested him, and his genius reshaped the world.
2. When it’s especially relevant (who this is for)
Astrocartography isn’t just for astrologers or full-time travellers. It’s for anyone who’s ever asked: “Why do I feel more alive in some places than others?”
Here’s when this tool becomes especially powerful:
✅ You’re a digital nomad, remote worker, or location-independent entrepreneur
And you want to live, create, and grow from a place that supports you, not drains you.
✅ You’re thinking about moving; or you already have
Whether it’s a short-term relocation or a big emigration, your map can offer guidance on where you’ll feel grounded, expansive, creative, or challenged.
✅ You travel often and want more alignment
Instead of picking random destinations, you want to understand why some trips feel magnetic and others feel “meh.”
✅ You want to launch something big: a book, course, retreat
Certain places amplify your voice, visibility, and creativity. If you’re launching something, why not align with supportive energy?
✅ You’re craving clarity, momentum, or inspiration
Sometimes, the right environment shifts everything. Your astrocartography can point to places that bring focus, joy, flow, or healing.
✅ You feel “off” where you are and can’t explain why
Maybe you’ve done everything right, but something still doesn’t click. Your chart might reveal why and where it could feel different.
Astrocartography can offer the clarity you've been missing. It's about aligning with energy that already lives within you.
If you want to explore your personal map in more depth, a personal reading is the right step to take.
3. How to get started with Astrocartography
Your astrocartography map might look complex at first, but getting started is simple:
#1. Generate your personal map
You can create a free map on websites like astro.com
Go to: Locational Astrology > AstroClick Travel
You’ll need three things:
Your birth date
Your exact time of birth
Your birthplace
⚠️ Important: Even a few minutes can shift your lines — so accuracy matters.
#2. Look at your lines
Your map will show lines for different planets, each marked with one of these codes, as I also mentioned before:
AC (Ascendant) — how others perceive you, your identity
DC (Descendant) — relationships, partnerships
MC (Midheaven) — career, visibility, reputation
IC (Imum Coeli) — home, safety, emotional grounding
These angles determine how the planetary energy shows up in your life.
#3. Start with one or two regions
Don’t try to interpret the whole map at once. Instead, zoom in on areas:
You’ve lived before
You want to travel to
You’ve always felt drawn to or strangely disconnected from
#4. Reflect and observe
Think back on your experiences in those places. Do they match the energy of the planetary lines?
A few examples:
Venus MC → You might feel more magnetic, appreciated, and visible
Saturn IC → You may feel emotionally restricted or experience challenges at home
Jupiter DC → You might meet influential people or experience expansive partnerships
4. What’s important to know (nuance matters)
Astrocartography is a powerful tool, but it’s not a magic map. There are layers of nuance that most people overlook. Here are a few things to keep in mind:
#1. It’s not black-and-white
Just because a Venus line runs through a city, doesn’t mean you’ll meet the love of your life there. It’s not about guaranteed outcomes. It’s about the type of energy you’ll be working with.
And how that energy plays out?
Depends on your consciousness, life experience, choices, and timing.
#2. There is no right or wrong
Every planetary line tells a different story; some about love, others about leadership, home, challenge, or transformation.
None of them are “good” or “bad.”
They’re just different invitations. You get to choose how you engage with them.
#3. Energy evolves with you
Your experience of a line will change as you change.
A Mars line might feel overwhelming when you’re burned out
but activating and empowering when you’re ready to lead.
You won’t experience a place the same way at age 5 as you will at 55.
Your level of awareness and life experience shape how you receive the energy.
#4. What if your lines run through the ocean?
Think of it like a solar eclipse:
When you’re directly under it, the effect is strongest, but even 200–500 km away, you’ll still see it and feel it.
It’s the same with planetary lines.
Just because your line crosses water doesn’t mean the energy is lost.
Look where it hits land nearby; you can still work with it.
#5. Your need your birth chart to read your Astrocartography map
Here’s what many people don’t realise:
Your astrocartography map is entirely based on your birth chart. Which means: you can’t read your astrocartography map properly without understanding your natal chart (birth chart) first.
It’s not just about finding a Venus or Jupiter line and reading what that might mean from a general blog post or AI summary.
The way a planet shows up for you is deeply personal and depends on:
the condition of that planet in your chart (strong, weak, challenged, exalted, retrograde…)
the aspects it makes to other planets
your dominant energies overall
the current phase of life you’re in
So reading your astrocartography map in isolation doesn’t give you the full picture.
It’s like watching one scene from a movie and assuming you understand the whole plot.
The deeper your understanding of your birth chart, the more accurate and useful your astrocartography insights will be.
This is why a personalised reading goes so much deeper than generic meanings. It connects the dots between your chart and the world map in a way that actually makes sense for you.
5. What to do with the outcome, beyond just travelling there
Once you understand your Astrocartography map, a whole new world opens up.
But here’s what most people don’t realise:
You don’t need to pack your bags right away.
You don’t have to physically move to every powerful line to benefit from its energy.
Sometimes, just becoming aware of the energetic imprint a place holds for you can already create clarity, healing, or forward momentum.
Energy is not limited by geography.
You can tune into the energy of a place from wherever you are.
For example, if your Venus line runs through Lisbon and you're currently in Berlin, you can still work with the qualities of that line.
You might:
Surround yourself with imagery or symbols from that place
Set an intention to connect to the Venusian energy (pleasure, connection, attraction) during meditation
Create a ritual or journaling moment to explore what that place is teaching you
Work with local time or moon transits of that location
6. My personal experience and the experiences of others
Even though I’ve been living in Bali since 2020, it wasn’t until years later that I discovered a Mars line runs straight through this island.
Suddenly, so many of my experiences made sense; especially the intense lessons and challenged I’ve had around relationships, community, friendships and setting boundaries. This place has challenged me in many ways, but those exact challenges shaped me into who I am today. Now I understand which energy is being activated here and how I can consciously work with it, instead of feeling like it’s working against me.
I’m reminded of a client who had been living in Australia for a while. During our session, I zoomed in on a specific Venus line that ran directly through a nearby city. I explained that Venus is often connected to love and relationships. She immediately responded: “That’s exactly where I met my partner a few years ago.”
In both examples, you can see the power of understanding the energetic blueprint of your personal lines. Instead of guessing or forcing, you begin choosing — with clarity and intention. Whether you're planning your next move, feeling out of sync in your current environment, or simply want to align more deeply with where you are, astrocartography can be a powerful guide.
Here’s what others have experienced in their readings with me:
Excellent insights shared in a Zoom session, plus two in-depth documents on astrocartography. You receive detailed information about countries in relation to yourself and your chart. This is a real game-changer for digital nomads, expats, and travellers. Highly recommended - Job Willems
Myrthe is a very warm, caring and knowledgeable person. You don’t just gain insights into energetic matches in certain places around the world, but also into who you truly are and why. It confirms what you may have already sensed, and shows you where (and where not) to look when it comes to relationships, friendships and work. Highly recommended - Sofieke Nout
7. Final thoughts
Astrocartography isn’t just about where you go. It’s about who you become when you align with the energy that supports you. Whether you're searching for clarity, healing, momentum, or your next big move, your personal map can be a powerful guide. And the best part? You don’t have to do it alone.
